Coaching is an evidence-based practice that helps individuals define and attain self-directed goals. I trust each client to define their own dreams - whether thats submitting homework on time, getting admitted to their top college, maintaining friendships, or improving their self-esteem.

When I coach a person I enter into a collaborative and supportive relationship with them. I'm not their parent or therapist. We enjoy a unique relationship free from the dynamics of grades and discipline. I offer accountability, but it's on the client's terms.

Unlike therapy, my coaching is action-oriented and future-focused. I focus on what's already good and what's possible.

My practice is based on my belief that every person has the inner resources to solve their challenges. My job is to help them draw out their brilliance.

FAQs About Coaching with Cat

Therapy offers a patient-provider relationship. Therapy often focuses on the past to gain insight into the present. Therapists are trained to
  • help people cope with clinically significant anxiety, depression, and other medical conditions
  • help people heal emotional wounds or recover from trauma.

Tutoring
offers a teacher-student relationship. Tutors are
  •  subject experts, but may not be trained in effective teaching
  •  can help students understand course material, practice academic skills, or complete homework.

How is coaching different from therapy or tutoring?

Certified ADHD coaches like me have special knowledge of the neurobiology of ADHD and have experience supporting folks with ADHD-related challenges. The coach can fulfill multiple roles, including advocate, cheerleader, guide, collaborator, and educator so that the client can engage in a process of self-discovery and actualization. I am trained to:

  • focus on my client's strengths and how they can leverage them to help themselves
  • help people set and attain self-directed goals
  • improve people's day-to-day functioning
  • ask questions to help my clients uncover their own motivations and obstacles
  • act as a collaborator in my client's plans to improve themselves

My coaching is tailored to my client's needs and may include a unique blend of ADHD and executive function coaching, emotional regulation skills support, and instruction in study, reading, or writing skills (if applicable). I am trained by ADDCA, the oldest and most reputable leader in accredited ADHD coaching.

What's special about ADHD coaching?

I've tried so many things. How do I know this will work?

ADHD coaching is unlike any therapy, education strategy, or other treatment option you've tried. Most folks who come to me have already attempted standard productivity and "self discipline" strategies, planners, and other systems and found they don't work. And I wouldn't expect them to. They aren't designed for our brains.

There is nothing like being understood by another person with ADHD who has faced similar struggles -- who sees through the missed deadlines, grades, or distractibility. I see my clients as  people with non-average brains capable of innovative problem-solving, divergent thinking, deep sensitivity, and the power to change the world.

Throughout the coaching progress, the client is the leader and drives the agenda. There is no set curriculum. Everything is customized according to the unique mind, skills, strengths, challenges, and situation of the client.

Coaching saves time, money, and peace of mind for years. My coaching results in quicker change than talk therapy; people will feel and see change within weeks or months. The benefits of coaching include life-long self esteem, better college or job prospects, healthier relationships, and a renewed sense of hope.

What kind of investment is required?

Change can happen quickly! In just 3-4 months of coaching, my clients enjoy decrease in stress, increased functioning at school/work, better teacher feedback, a more peaceful home life, and much more. Many students want to work with me throughout the school year. Clients can expect to dedicate an hour a week to live coaching sessions and more time to apply their custom strategies. I offer multiple-month packages that include features such as 1x or 2x weekly coaching sessions, on-demand support between sessions, school/workplace consulting and advocacy, and learning style assessments. Based on our consult call, I will design a personalized package for you, which can range from $540 - $700 a month.

Is my teen or college student ready for coaching?

Success depends on the client's
  • mental health stability: if your child is currently significantly depressed, anxious, or is struggling with another mental health condition that impedes their functioning, that must be treated before they engage in coaching
  • willingness to try new behaviors, strategies, and ways of thinking
  • belief or hope in their ability to change
  • ability to devote some time each week to apply what they learn from coaching

During the consult call and intake process, I will do my best to determine if your child is coachable. If we decide they are not ready, I'll be sure you feel good about the next steps - whether that's parent coaching, therapy, or a school-based intervention.

"Working with Cat was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I felt seen and heard and validated and understood. Cat taught me how to turn my ADHD traits into strengths while also acknowledging how frustrating they can be. I'm applying what I learned from her to all areas of my life."
